The first milestone of our thesis process begins with a research paper. This document prepares us as students to make educated design decisions when we enter the design process. As designers, it is our responsibility to have full knowledge of our clients, design styles, location, environment, & special cases like accessibility.

The paper begins with a comprehensive introduction to the problem and the potential needs of the client. The next portion of the paper contains three types of research: Historical, Observational, & Interactive, in order to receive well-rounded insight into the topic. Site location and existing building conditions are analyzed next in the paper. Five precedent studies were completed for facilities similar to the one I wished to design which made the programming phase of the design process more thorough. Finally, the initial programming phase began. This consisted of bubble diagramming, adjacencies & concept development.
