ASID Design Showdown Competition - 2020
Bloom Café
Inspiration Images & Concept
Bloom is a hypothetical restaurant located at 29 Court Square in Boston, Massachusetts that is open to the public and the tenants of the building it's a part of. Bloom also has a special cooking class room on the lower level where residents of the building and members of various therapy groups from the local area can sign up to learn how to cook easy meals. Bloom is dedicated to teaching those with negative mental health how to cook so that they can continue to take care of themselves even when they feel unmotivated to. This project was submitted for the Boston Design Centers ASID Showdown Competition for 2020.
Bloom is a fast-casual restaurant that serves comfort food favorites in a relaxed, yet lively environment that will appeal to the tenants and the public. The concept for Bloom is the sunflower, focusing on the color, textures, and life cycle that it maintains. Sunflowers symbolize longevity and are considered the “happiness flowers” because of their bright yellow coloring and resemblance to the sun. Lighting and color will play a crucial role in the design of this restaurant in order to replicate the blossoming sunflower and allow the space to radiate positivity, cheerfulness, and warmth. It is important that everyone who visits Bloom feels comforted and uplifted by the space.
